The Federal Produce Inspection Service (FPIS) is a department under the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, tasked with fumigation of produce for exportation according to internationally held standards.
Below is the Federal Produce Inspection Service Fumigation Procedure:

- Produce to be fumigated must first be warehoused in a warehouse registered by Federal Produce Inspection Service.
- The exporter sends an application to Federal Produce Inspection Service indicating the tonnage of produce to be fumigated: (i) Quality check test follows to determine the various parameters.
- Snaking is then undertaken to determine the level of pest infestation and/ or adulteration if any.
- All implements used in fumigation including chemicals are readied for application.
- Fumigant is applied in accordance with recommended dosage for level of infestation and left covered for specified period.
- For containers, barges or ship hold fumigation; (i) Required implements are also made ready. (ii) Ship owners send application to Federal Produce Inspection Service. (iii) Fumigant is applied accordingly.
- Certificate of fumigation is then issued by the Federal Produce Inspection Service.
